It has proven to be true for me.Īlso I do use tube calls some throughout the season. So draw air lightly to get the best sounds. He said "It only take a little air to operate the trumpet". Anthony gave me one little statement that has stuck when I was trying out his trumpet. One last thing from this novice trumpet player. I'm still learning and beginning to feel I might be able to kill one with it this spring. To get the Keykey you have to block most of the end so you are drawing very little air at a little harder draw and for me I have to get the tip up against my upper lip closing off most of the tip also. Doing a KeyKey on the trumpet is something I couldn't get right but again the trick of blocking the end with your finger helped me accomplish this sound on the call. It's kinda difficult to do right but once you do it right you realize what he is talking about. This gives a little more rasp to the call. Another trick I learned from one a video I believe Mark Pudmore did on calling with a trumpet was put a little moisture between my teeth and the trumpet tip then draw the air through the moisture. If this is done right you can really control the volume and help with the tone a lot. One trick that has helped me a lot as to getting the low sounds is using my second finger (bird finger) to block some of the end of the trumpet as I cup my hands around it for the sound chamber. During this I've watched several videos from the old time greats on YouTube on how to use one and tricks to help with the sounds. This year at Unicoi I bought a trumpet from Anthony and have put in a good bit of practice with it so far. I've had a trumpet for several years that I just never felt comfortable using.
